Pizza Buns (New)

 

  • 2 pounds ground beef

  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon pizza seasoning spice

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon basil

  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano

  • pinch cayenne pepper

  • 1 medium tin mushroom pieces, drained (optional)

  • 1 tin (7 1/2 oz.) pizza sauce

  • 1 1/2 cups grated mozzarella cheese

 

In large frying pan, brown beef, draining well. Add seasonings and mushrooms and cook on low heat briefly. Taste and adjust seasonings. Refrigerate till ready to use.

Prepare basic two hour buns recipe. After the second 15 minute rising of dough, punch dough down and divide in half. On lightly floured board roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut circles with a floured 3 1/2 inch cutter. On half the circles spread 3 to 4 tablespoons cooled meet filling and one tablespoon grated cheese. Cover with remaining circles and pinch circles together with floured fingers. Proceed with other half of dough in same manner. Place on greased baking sheets 1 inch apart; cover and let rise one hour.

Before baking brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy or sesame seeds. Bake at 3750 for 20 minutes. Makes 18 large buns. Note: they freeze well.
